MP4Cast- The easiest way to play videos on your Chromecast ™

MP4Cast Help

How do I use this?

Easy! First, Install the app, then visit www.mp4cast.com. Then select a file to play!

What is your privacy policy?

We don't collect any personal information. We collect usage statistics. Also, file names may be sent to a third party server which looks up IMDB (Internet Movie Database) metadata. We plan to add options to allow you to disable or enable this in the future.

How does this work?

MP4Cast lets you stream a file from your computer directly to a Google Chromecast compatible device. It accomplishes this by running a web server in the background that the Chromecast can connect to.

How can I pause/play from my Android or iPhone?

Install the Chromecast app on the Apple Store or the Google Play Store.

Does it use much system resources (e.g. memory, CPU)?

No! The app is very tiny and it shuts down as soon as there is no activity from the Chromecast, and you close the website. Also, it does not attempt to transcode, so it will work on even the weakest of computers.

The video is not loading!

Check that you are loading in an mp4 or mkv file, and that it is an acceptable file for your Chromecast. That means, no XVID, no AC3, no WMV, FLV, etc. Stick to x264 and mp4 and you're good!

Can I control the playback from another computer?

Yes, you can control playback from another computer with a Chrome browser by just visiting mp4cast.com and clicking "Cast mp4cast.com" from the Chromecast extension.

Any other tips?

Yes, you can control playback and volume from the Google Cast extension in the Chrome toolbar. Even from another computer!

Does this work on Chromebooks?

Yes, it works on all Google chromebooks, including ARM chromebooks (such as the ASUS Chromebook Flip)

What operating systems are supported?

We support Windows, Mac, Linux, and ChromeOS. In particular, any operating system that runs the full Chrome web browser can use mp4cast.com to play videos on their Chromecast.

It's not finding my Chromecast?

Try restarting Chrome by typing "chrome://restart" into the URL bar

Why do I need to install an app?

MP4Cast needs to listen for an incoming connection from the Chromecast. Currently this is accomplished with the MP4Cast app, which is available on the Chrome web store

What port does it use?

It tries to use port 8643 (but will try another port if that one's taken).

Do I need to turn off my firewall?

Maybe. If you're on Windows. Try opening it up, or at least port 8643.
